EVANSTON, IL (October 6, 2011) -- D3D Cinema is pleased to announce that its first U.K. giant screen digital 3D conversion at Millennium Point in Birmingham is underway. The former IMAX theater is set to become the Midlands largest, independent digital 3D cinema. Outfitted with twin state-of-the-art Barco 4K digital projectors paired with industry-leading Dolby Digital 3D technology, the new system will allow Millennium Point to show a wider selection of 3D feature films as well as a larger variety of 2D movies and documentaries. Millennium Point will reopen the theater at the end of October with The Adventures of Tintin 3D.
Don Kempf, President and Founder of D3D Cinema comments, “D3D Cinema is thrilled to be partnering up with Millennium Point, and we are extremely excited to convert their theater to digital 3D. We applaud the forward-thinking that Millennium Point has demonstrated with their decision to go digital, and we encourage other theaters to consider a digital 3D conversion for themselves.”
Karen Steed, Acting CEO of Millennium Point said, “This is a very exciting time for the cinema at Millennium Point. The landscape of filmmaking and cinema is shifting at an enormous rate, and in order to succeed in the current climate, we must go digital. We are converting to a new digital projection system, which will be the very first of its kind in Europe. By introducing this state-of-the-art projection technology, we will have greater freedom to show even more of the 2D and 3D films we know customers want to see on the giant screen.”
In addition to the projection system conversion, Millennium Point will be making more updates to their theater. Before reopening, the giant silver screen will be replaced, and new luxury seating will be installed.
Sir Bernard Zissman, Chairman of Millennium Point Trust comments, “This conversion to state-of-the-art digital projection means that we will be on the cutting edge of cinema technology, and able to provide more films as well as other exciting content for our customers.”
