Welcome to the first D3D Cinema Newsletter of 2025! We’re excited to share the latest theater upgrades, additions to our Cinéfolio film catalog, milestones, and more!
D3D is proud to announce three new giant screen installations and upgrades.
MOODY GARDENS | TEXAS
Moody and D3D have a long partnership and together have pioneered numerous industry ‘firsts,’ including the first 4K giant screen projection and the first large-format laser installation over a decade ago. The new upgrade will include a soup-to-nuts laser-illuminated solution, new screen, and ATMOS audio package. The project will also augment D3D’s network of digital signage in the aquarium, visitor’s center and discovery pavilion.
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM LA COUNTY | CALIFORNIA
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County premiered its new Commons Wing in November featuring a 400-seat 3D laser cinema alongside two dozen digital displays designed and installed by D3D for the box office, way finding and internal promotions. The display technology and centralized content management system consolidates the signage at the box office, way finding displays, promotion boards and cinema projectors under a cloud-based CMS controlling the NHM and its sister Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits.
ANTELOPE ISLAND VISITOR CENTER | UTAH
D3D is proud to have been selected by the State of Utah for the system design and installation of the giant screen theater in the newly-constructed Antelope Island State Park visitor center. This stunning venue will feature ultra high-resolution laser projection and immersive audio on a large format screen, featuring the signature film, Secrets of the Great Salt Lake.
SAN DIEGO NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM | CALIFORNIA
SDNHM was the very first digital large-format theater installed by D3D, over 15 years ago. That workhorse technology will be upgraded to a state-of-the-art 4K laser system, coupled with participation in D3D’s popular Cinéfolio content subscription. The museum will feature a new 4K scan of their 1570 classic signature production, Ocean Oasis (distributed by Giant Screen Films).

Giant Screen Films’ blockbuster hit T. REX surpasses 100 leases worldwide, on pace to hit over 125 bookings by its one year anniversary in June. The film has been met with universal enthusiasm from museum teams, scientists and audiences of all ages. “T. REX is in pace to be GSF’s most successful box office performer in over a decade,” says Don Kempf, President of Giant Screen Films. “The film’s visitor capture metrics are truly remarkable and we encourage museum buyers that have not yet booked to talk to colleagues that have. Given the transcendent popularity of this greatest of all tyrants—the GOAT—even aquariums and space museums are making exceptions to bring T. REX to their screens!”
T. REX is available for all giant screen, cinema domes, 3D, and planetarium formats.

Fare Thee Well, DT – After a groundbreaking 15 years, D3D’s SVP of Business Development, Derek Threinen, is moving to Mission partners as the Executive Vice President, Film Distribution and Theater Development. Derek was instrumental in D3D’s pioneering push to convert the giant screen industry to 4K digital projection, helming agreements for numerous first-to-market giant screen technologies. DT was truly a force for positive disruption in the museum cinema biz, and he will be missed at D3D. We wish him the very best in his new endeavor!
Great Scott! – The man, the myth, the legend—Scott Fauteux returns to D3D as Senior Portfolio Director. After leaving for a stint at Comcast Corporate during the pandemic, the D3D team is thrilled to have Scott rejoin the company. Many of D3D’s clients know Scott well and will likewise welcome his return. As one of the earliest members of the D3D team, Scott was involved in nearly 100 cinema and Birdly installations.
